Hamburg police officers report high dissatisfaction in union survey
A recent survey by the German Police Union (DPolG) reveals significant dissatisfaction among Hamburg police officers regarding their employer. Out of 2,420 participants, the police force received an average rating of only 2.4 to 2.5 out of 5 stars.
Key findings indicate that 1,305 respondents would not choose a career with the Hamburg police again if given the choice. Furthermore, 74 percent of those surveyed have seriously considered or already sought a transfer to a different federal state. A critical lack of appreciation was noted, with only 53 participants stating they feel their work and personal commitment are recognized.
The union cited several grievances, including inadequate compensation compared to other states and insufficient opportunities for further training. DPolG regional chairman Thomas Jungfer described the results as a “clear stop signal” to leadership. Concerns were also raised regarding planned budget cuts for 2027/2028, which may include increasing the weekly working hours to 41 and reducing personnel.
