Hamburg police use thermal camera to remove 19 people from railway tracks

In Hamburg, Germany, 19 hotel guests entered a restricted zone by walking along S-Bahn railway tracks to reach their accommodation. The area had been cordoned off following the discovery of a World War II bomb during construction work at Diebsteich station.

The bomb discovery forced the evacuation of approximately 2,500 residents within a 400-meter radius. The situation was considered particularly dangerous as construction workers had reportedly moved the bomb, potentially activating its long-term chemical fuse.

Despite the danger of 1,200-volt DC power rails, the group traveled between the Diebsteich and Ottensen stations. After residents reported seeing the group, the Federal Police used a thermal imaging camera to locate and remove the individuals from the tracks. The bomb was successfully defused by the Hamburg Fire Department's bomb disposal service late Wednesday night.
