Hamburg political polls show decline for SPD and CDU

Recent polling for the Hamburg Bürgerschaft indicates a significant shift in the political landscape, with traditional centrist parties losing ground. According to data from Trend Research Hamburg and Radio Hamburg, the SPD has dropped to 29%, a decrease of 4.5 percentage points compared to the previous election. The CDU has seen a substantial decline, falling 7.8 points to reach 12%.

In contrast, the AfD has seen significant growth, doubling its previous standing to reach 14%. Die Linke also gained momentum, rising to 15%. The Greens remain relatively stable with 18%. Under these polling figures, a red-green coalition could continue but would hold a significantly narrower majority.

Separately, the Hamburg Bürgerschaft recently debated crisis preparedness and urban resilience following the 'Red Storm Charlie' military exercise. While all factions agreed on the importance of a resilient city, they differed on implementation: the SPD and CDU focused on infrastructure and coordination, the Greens emphasized individual responsibility and volunteers, the Left warned against militarization, and the AfD called for the reintroduction of compulsory military service.
