Hamburg public transport faces U3 and S-Bahn closures

Major public transport disruptions are affecting Hamburg, Germany, due to extensive infrastructure maintenance on the U3 metro line and several S-Bahn routes.

The U3 metro line will be closed in both directions between St. Pauli and Rathaus from October 19 to October 29. Hochbahn is conducting these works to replace approximately 860 wooden sleepers with more durable plastic ones, replace about 300 meters of rail, and update connection systems to better manage thermal expansion. To mitigate the impact, MetroBus line 17 will be rerouted to serve the affected stops.

Additionally, S-Bahn services are facing closures between Berliner Tor and Bergedorf from October 17 through November 1 due to track, sleeper, and bridge construction. This affects the S2 line, while the S7 line will operate at 30-minute intervals between Bergedorf and Aumühle. Deutsche Bahn is providing replacement bus services, and passengers can also utilize the RE1 regional express between Bergedorf and the main station.
