Hamburg reopens Amsinckstraße following major water pipe burst
Following a major water pipe burst on September 30, two lanes of Amsinckstraße heading toward Deichtorplatz will be reopened to traffic starting Tuesday at 6:00 AM. The road, part of the Bundesstraße 4, serves as a vital connection between Hamburg's city center and the eastern districts.
While two lanes toward the city center are reopening, the northern tube of the Deichtortunnel remains closed. A third lane toward the city is expected to be available by mid-November, and construction is slated for completion by mid-December. To alleviate morning congestion, drivers may use two additional lanes from the opposite direction between 5:00 AM and 11:00 AM.
In response to the incident, Hamburg Wasser has accelerated several planned infrastructure projects. This includes the replacement of three supply lines dating back to 1961 and the advancement of road resurfacing on Spaldingstraße, which had originally been scheduled for 2027.
