Hamburg SV appoints Nicolai Remberg as new captain

Hamburg SV head coach Merlin Polzin has officially named 26‑year‑old midfielder Nicolai Remberg as the club’s captain for the 2026/27 Bundesliga season, replacing Yussuf Poulsen. Poulsen, who struggled with injuries last season, will remain in the leadership group as a mentor.

Remberg, who joined Hamburg after successful promotion campaigns with Holstein Kiel, previously captained at the Regionalliga level and earned 32 Bundesliga appearances for Kiel in 2024/25. Polzin praised his “high‑intensity, demanding style” and highlighted his on‑field leadership during a recent match against Wolfsburg. Nicolas Capaldo and Albert Sambi Lokonga have been appointed as his deputies.
