Series of drowning deaths reported across Germany

Police investigations this week have confirmed several drowning fatalities in different parts of Germany.

In Bavaria, a middle‑aged man was recovered from the Main River near Hallstadt on 18 July after a passer‑by from Fürth reported the body. The Kripo Bamberg is treating the death as a possible accident, with no signs of foul play.

In Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern, a 42‑year‑old man was found dead in the Uecker near Torgelow early Sunday morning. Investigators are conducting forensic and medical examinations to determine the cause.

In Hamburg’s Allermöher See, a 15‑year‑old teenager drowned on Friday after friends’ rescue attempts failed. Rescue units, including a helicopter and sonar, located the victim in about ten metres of water; he later died at the university hospital.

In the Oberfranken community of Leutenbach, a 62‑year‑old man who had gone missing was discovered lifeless in a brook on Saturday morning while checking a flood‑drain pipe. Police regard it as an accident.

Near the Ammersee, a 12‑year‑old boy was rescued unconscious from the Wörthsee after slipping away from his mother; he survived following immediate CPR and helicopter assistance.
