Hamburg U3 subway line to face major autumn closures
The Hamburg Hochbahn has announced two major closures on the U3 subway line this autumn to facilitate extensive track and sleeper renovations.
The first closure will take place from October 19 to October 29. During this period, no trains will run between the St. Pauli and Rathaus stations. Maintenance work includes replacing approximately 860 old wooden sleepers with new ones and renewing 300 meters of rail. To mitigate the impact, MetroBus line 17 will be rerouted to serve affected stops, including Landungsbrücken, Baumwall, and Rödingsmarkt.
A second closure is scheduled from November 2 to November 27, affecting the section between Berliner Tor and Barmbek on weekdays. This phase involves replacing 1,334 wooden sleepers and renewing 650 meters of power rail. Passengers are advised to use the S1 line or replacement bus services during this time. Regular service is expected to continue on the U3 during weekends throughout this period.
