Hamburg workforce expands as city staff rises and tesa adds apprentices

The City of Hamburg reported that its total personnel count reached 82,997 employees (about 72,000 full‑time positions) in 2025, an increase of roughly 1,000 staff compared with the previous year. Jan Pörksen, head of the Senate Chancellery, said the rise reflects slower population growth and that the city plans to curb the staff‑to‑population ratio gradually, but there will be no hiring freeze despite a tight budget. Female representation in leadership grew to 49.3 % overall, though top executive posts remain less than one‑third held by women.

At the same time, German adhesive specialist tesa SE announced that about 40 new apprentices and dual‑study students will start in 2026 at its headquarters in Norderstedt and at its production sites in Hamburg and Offenburg. The programmes cover roles from chemistry and mechatronics to system‑integration IT, and offer pathways to master‑level study. tesa frames the training as a cornerstone of its long‑term skill strategy for emerging technologies and digital processes.
