Hamburger SV defeats 1. FC Köln 2-1 for first season win

Hamburger SV secured their first Bundesliga victory of the season with a 2-1 win against 1. FC Köln at the Volksparkstadion. The win ends a difficult start for the club, which had previously suffered three consecutive losses and conceded 12 goals without scoring a single one.

Nicolas Capaldo opened the scoring in the 44th minute with a header following a corner from Albert Grønbæk. Shortly after the halftime break, Yussuf Poulsen doubled the lead in the 50th minute. Although Ragnar Ache scored a late goal for Köln in the 90th minute, the hosts held on for the win.

The victory serves as a significant boost for head coach Merlin Polzin, who had his contract extended just one day prior to the match. Despite Köln dominating possession with approximately 72 percent in the first half, Hamburg's defensive focus and goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes' saves kept the team in the game.
