Hamidou Djiba granted provisional liberty in Senegal

Hamidou Djiba, the self-proclaimed spokesperson for the political wing of the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC), has been granted provisional liberty. The decision was made by the senior investigating judge at the Dakar court.

Djiba, 61, had been in detention for over a year following his arrest in August 2025 in a Casamance village. He faces charges including conspiracy against state authority and territorial integrity. While he has been released, the judicial investigation remains ongoing, and he maintains the presumption of innocence.

A notable aspect of the release is that the public prosecutor's office did not appeal the judge's decision, allowing for his immediate release. The arrest originally followed public statements deemed hostile to the Republic, and the operation involved a coordinated effort by the Ziguinchor research section.
