Hamish Hamilton Says First FIFA World Cup Halftime Show Was Logistically 'Challenging Beyond Challenging
Hamish Hamilton, a veteran director of Super Bowls, Olympic ceremonies and major award shows, led the first-ever halftime concert at the FIFA World Cup final. He described the production as "challenging beyond challenging" because it was the inaugural event of its kind, held in daylight on a grass pitch, and required fitting a roster that included Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber, Shakira, Burna Boy, the PS22 Choir, the Muppets and a Gustavo Dudamel‑led orchestra into an 11‑minute slot.
Hamilton said the show faced unique logistical hurdles—managing strong daylight, the delicate grass surface, and a complex stage design—yet it proceeded without technical snags. He expressed a mix of exhaustion, relief and happiness, noting the effort helped realize the vision of Chris Martin and Global Citizens after four years of planning.
