Hammer Films to release 4K restoration of 1958 Dracula

Hammer Films is releasing a definitive 4K restoration of its 1958 classic film, Dracula, starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. The restoration includes long-lost footage that was previously deemed too shocking for audiences and has not been released in full in the UK or US since the film’s original Japanese theatrical release.

Collaborating with Silver Salt Restoration and The Warner Archive Collection, the project involved high-resolution scanning and frame-by-frame repair to recreate the original Technicolor palette. The restoration aims to present the film as it was originally intended to be seen.

The film will return to UK cinemas starting October 16, followed by the release of a 4K Limited Collector’s Edition Boxset on October 26. The boxset is expected to include over 15 hours of exclusive features, such as the Dracula workprint.
