Hammer Films to release 4K restoration of Dracula with uncensored footage
Hammer Films, in partnership with Silver Salt Restoration and Warner Bros., has announced a 4K restoration of the 1958 horror classic ‘Dracula’. The film, directed by Terence Fisher and starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, is set for release in October.
This specific restoration is notable for including approximately three minutes of footage that was previously removed by censors and distributors. These scenes, which were part of the original director's cut, were recovered from pristine reels located in a Warner Bros. warehouse.
According to Steve Rogers, who oversees Hammer’s film archives, the restoration utilizes a color palette consistent with the cinematography of ‘The Curse of Frankenstein’. Pre-orders for the limited edition are scheduled to begin on September 4.
