Hampton University projects $8-$10M economic impact for 2026 Homecoming

Hampton University has announced its Homecoming Week 2026, scheduled for October 18-25 under the theme ‘There’s No Place Like Our Home by the Sea.’ The university estimates the event will generate an economic impact of $8 million to $10 million for the Hampton and Coastal Virginia region.

This projection represents a significant increase from the $3 million estimate provided for the 2024 homecoming. The revised figure is based on visitor analytics from the 2025 celebration. Data from Placer.ai indicated that the 2025 homecoming generated approximately 96,000 campus visits from an estimated 40,800 unique visitors, marking a 16.5% increase in campus visits and an 18.3% increase in unique visitors compared to the previous year.

President Darrell K. Williams noted that the homecoming serves as a demonstration of the university’s reach. The event is part of a broader economic trend for Virginia’s private higher education institutions; a Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia report suggests that graduates from its 28 member institutions generate approximately $515 million in annual economic activity across the state.
