Hamza Amari wins Grand Prix Chantal-Biya cycling race in Cameroon

Algerian cyclist Hamza Amari won the 2026 Grand Prix Chantal-Biya in Cameroon, securing the general classification title after five stages. Amari finished with a cumulative time of 14:45:48, narrowly defeating Cameroon’s Clovis Kamzong Abossolo and Switzerland’s Wanja Russenberger. This victory makes Amari the third Algerian to win the prestigious event, following Azzedine Lagab in 2019 and Yacine Hamza in 2023.

The final 178-kilometer stage from Meyomessala to Yaoundé was won by France’s Guillaume Deurweilher. While Amari placed third in the individual stage, his performance was sufficient to maintain his overall lead.

The closing ceremony in Yaoundé was presided over by Cameroon’s First Lady, Chantal Biya, who presented the yellow jersey to Amari. The event also featured the women’s race, which was won by Floriane Véronique Bengono Nkama of Académie Carlo Oriani. The competition drew international attention, with officials from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the African Cycling Confederation in attendance.
