Hamas' Izz al‑Din al‑Qassam Brigades release new footage of slain Khan Younis commander Hamza Hisham Amir
On 31 July 2026 the Izz al‑Din al‑Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, published new video material about Hamza Hisham Amir, a 1991‑born fighter known as the “elegant fighter”. The clips are part of the “Moons of the Flood” series that documents the lives of martyrs from the Gaza war that began in late 2023.
The footage shows Amir serving as a battalion commander in the Musab bin Umeyr unit of the Khan Younis Brigade, supervising training, taking part in live‑ammunition drills before the “Al‑Aqsa Flood” operation, and operating a Yassin 105 anti‑tank rocket against an Israeli vehicle in Khan Younis. He is also seen directing a comrade to fire an anti‑armor round and moving among destroyed houses during combat. The videos record an injury he sustained and his continued participation until he was killed on 1 March 2024.
The release notes that Amir was the son of Hamas commander Hisham Husni Amir, who was killed in 1992 during the First Intifada. In a filmed will, Amir urged his family to keep the “covenant” and raise children with Quranic education and ties to mosques. The footage generated extensive discussion on social media.
