Han Dong-hoon challenges Kim Seung-won over corruption allegations

Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon has launched a series of public inquiries and criticisms regarding Kim Seung-won, a nominee for Minister of Justice. Han raised questions concerning Kim’s alleged involvement in a pharmaceutical lobbying scandal involving the company Genencell. Specifically, Han questioned whether the Supreme Court or the Prosecution Service had previously addressed requests to exclude a specific judge from reviewing warrants related to the case due to potential personal ties between the judge, a broker, and Kim.

Additionally, Han raised allegations regarding the potential creation of slush funds within the Democratic Party’s Gyeonggi Province chapter during Kim’s tenure as provincial chairman. Han alleged that certain officials may have received extra payments under the guise of salaries, which were then returned to specific accounts to form undisclosed funds.

In a separate political context, Han Dong-hoon addressed the direction of the conservative movement during an event in Gwangju. He criticized the concept of a “fighting party,” arguing instead for the creation of a “winning party” that prioritizes public sentiment. Han emphasized that securing votes in the Honam region is essential for the conservative party to reclaim power in the 2030 presidential election.
