Han Dong-hoon faces investigation over alleged probe suppression and egg import claims

Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon is facing new legal scrutiny as a complaint alleging he suppressed investigations into his daughter’s academic credentials has been transferred to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. The complaint, filed by civic groups, alleges that during his tenure as Minister of Justice, Han interfered with investigations regarding potential copyright violations and fraudulent academic specifications. While a previous police investigation in 2022 resulted in a decision not to transfer the case, critics and opposition members are calling for a reinvestigation, citing potential abuse of power.

Separately, Han has raised allegations regarding the import of Brazilian eggs, suggesting the decision may have been a diplomatic “gift” following a summit between South Korean and Brazilian leaders. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refuted these claims, stating that no decisions regarding egg imports were made during the summit. The Ministry clarified that the import process is a separate effort to stabilize domestic supply and diversify import sources, and that the Brazilian Agriculture Minister’s previous comments were intended to promote diplomatic achievements rather than confirm a specific trade decision.
