Han Dong-hoon Leads Parliamentary Push to Remove Prosecutors' Supplementary Investigation Authority

Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon convened an emergency debate in the South Korean National Assembly to oppose a proposed amendment to the criminal procedure law that would eliminate prosecutors' supplementary investigation authority. He warned that passing the bill without thorough discussion would constitute a crime against the public and criticized the ruling Democratic Party for attempting to push the measure through.

People Power Party veteran Jo Kyung‑tae, who recently received a supportive text from Han, praised Han’s past role in thwarting the illegal declaration of emergency martial law in December 2012. Jo said he would join a filibuster with the party if the amendment were advanced, emphasizing continued cooperation on conservative reconstruction efforts. Both legislators are currently under disciplinary proceedings by the party ethics committee, though hearings have not yet been scheduled.
