Hana Bank blocks 18.5 billion KRW in KReSIM investment fraud

Hana Bank has successfully prevented the outflow of approximately 18.5 billion KRW by blocking 1,450 transactions related to a new investment fraud scheme known as 'KReSIM.' The bank achieved this by applying specialized detection scenarios to its Fraud Detection System (FDS).

KReSIM allegedly lured investors by claiming to operate an eSIM sales business targeting foreign tourists, promising high returns and multi-level marketing commissions. The scheme is described as a Ponzi-style structure where new investor funds are used to pay existing members. While the exact scale of the damage is under investigation, victims claim the number of affected individuals nationwide could reach between 20,000 and 30,000.

Hana Bank established its response system in February by developing monitoring scenarios that reflect KReSIM's specific transaction patterns. When suspicious signals are detected, the system immediately rejects transaction approvals to corporate accounts and blocks mobile banking app installations to prevent further capital flight. The bank also provides emergency notifications via KakaoTalk and one-on-one consultations to assist victims.
