Hana Jušić’s film selected as Croatian Oscar candidate
The Croatian Society of Film Workers has selected Hana Jušić’s film “Bog neće pomoći” (God Won’t Help) as the Croatian entry for the 99th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.
Set in an isolated shepherd community on the Dinara mountain at the beginning of the 20th century, the historical drama follows Teresa, a Chilean woman who arrives claiming to be the widow of an elder’s brother killed in a Chilean mine. Her presence disrupts the community's rigid social structure while offering her personal freedom.
The film has achieved significant international recognition, including winning the Leopard award for best acting at the Locarno Film Festival for Manuela Martelli and Ana Marija Veselčić. It has also received accolades at the Sarajevo Film Festival, the Pula Film Festival, and various other international festivals in Thessaloniki, Sofia, and Dortmund.
Produced by Kinorama, the film is a multi-national co-production involving companies from Italy, Romania, Greece, France, Slovenia, and Greece.
