Hanam Mayor proposes major subway extensions to Metropolitan Transport Commission

Hanam Mayor Lee Hyun-jae met with Kim Yong-seok, Chairman of the Metropolitan Transport Commission, to propose several urgent regional transportation improvements. A primary focus was the request to include a 5.0 km extension of the Wirye-Sinsa Line into the ‘5th Metropolitan Transport Implementation Plan’ to address perceived transport discrimination against Hanam residents who have contributed to regional transport funds.

Mayor Lee also requested that the Songpa-Hanam Line (Line 3 extension) meet its 2032 opening target to accommodate residents of the upcoming Gyosan New Town. Additionally, the Mayor urged the swift selection of a contractor for the Gangdong-Hanam-Namyangju Line (Line 9 extension) following multiple failed bids and suggested utilizing existing turnaround tracks to enable early opening of the Gangil-Misa section.

To further expand regional connectivity, the city is planning to meet with officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to advocate for the inclusion of the GTX-D route in the ‘5th National Railway Network Construction Plan’.
