Hanam obstetrics clinic building fire forces mass evacuation
A fire broke out at a building housing an obstetrics clinic and postpartum care center in Pungsan-dong, Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, on the morning of September 26. The blaze, which reportedly started on an upper floor in a laundry or rest area, prompted the emergency evacuation of approximately 60 to 69 people, including mothers and infants.
Firefighting authorities deployed 28 pieces of equipment and 60 personnel to the scene. The fire was brought under control within approximately 23 minutes of the initial report. While no casualties or injuries were reported, the incident caused significant disruption to the medical facilities located on the 5th through 7th floors.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been caused by a washing machine or dryer. Police and fire officials are scheduled to conduct a joint forensic inspection on September 28 to determine the exact cause and extent of the damage.
