Koshien tournament reaches quarterfinals with eight teams remaining

The 108th National High School Baseball Championship has reached its quarterfinals, with the final eight teams determined. Notable performances include Ariake High School from Kumamoto, which secured its place in the best eight through its third consecutive comeback victory, defeating Higashi Nihon International University Shohei 4-1.

In other key matchups, Yokohama defeated Kasumigaura 5-2 to reach the quarterfinals for the second consecutive year. Hanamaki Higashi from Iwate advanced after a 4-0 shutout against Eimei, remaining the sole representative from a prefecture that has never won a national title. Additionally, Tenri High School from Nara secured a spot in the semifinals after a dominant 7-0 victory over Mie High School, led by a complete-game shutout from pitcher Sakusuke Hashimoto.
