Hanau City Run supports women's shelters and combats violence

The Hanau City Run (Hanauer Stadtlauf) recently took place in Germany, featuring a team from the city of Maintal led by Mayor Monika Böttcher. The event, which follows a six-kilometer course starting from the marketplace, focuses on raising awareness and funds for women's shelters in the Main-Kinzig district.

The annual September motto, “Showing strength – together against violence against women,” emphasizes social solidarity over athletic competition. Participants aim to make a visible statement against domestic violence, sexual offenses, and digital violence, which officials note are not declining despite political efforts.

Annika Frohböse, Maintal's Women's and Equality Officer, highlighted the high number of unreported cases due to shame or fear of consequences. Mayor Böttcher emphasized that effective protection for women requires a combination of social solidarity, political engagement, and widespread education.
