Hanau parking garage to be demolished for medical center
A functionalist parking garage located on Hanauer Langstraße in Hanau, Germany, is scheduled for demolition to make way for a new medical center. The structure, built in the early 1970s, operated as a unique high-bay warehouse where cars were moved into storage boxes within the building.
Since 2020, the complex has remained vacant due to high renovation costs, specifically regarding fire protection, and general economic unviability. The city's parking garage company determined that maintaining the facility was no longer cost-effective.
Replacement parking for the nearby hospital was established in 2017 with the opening of a new garage on the opposite side of the street, as well as additional spaces on Nürnberger Straße. The municipal magistrate has approved the sale of the site to Krebs Immobilien, and city representatives are expected to make a final decision in early November.
