Hanau police continue bicycle coding initiative to prevent theft

The Hanau Police Station and the Hanau City Police are continuing their collaborative bicycle coding initiative following high public interest. The third coding event of 2026 was held at the Weststadt office in Kesselstadt, where owners could have their bicycles or e-scooters marked with an individual F.E.I.N. (Fahrrad-Eigentümer-Identifikations-Nummer) code.

The process involves engraving a unique code in a highly visible location on the frame. This measure is designed to facilitate the return of found or seized bicycles to their rightful owners and to deter theft by making stolen goods less attractive to buyers and fences. Due to the significant demand, authorities have confirmed that the partnership will continue into 2027, with planning for future events already underway.
