Hancock Prospecting challenges Perth helipad rejection in tribunal
Hancock Prospecting has escalated its legal battle to install a private helipad atop its new West Perth headquarters by taking the matter to the State Administrative Tribunal. The move follows a decision by the City of Perth in December to reject the proposal for the Ord Street building.
Opponents, including the City of Perth and neighboring buildings, have raised concerns regarding noise pollution and the potential for the private landing pad to set an undesirable urban planning precedent. The Child and Adolescent Health Service also submitted concerns that intermittent helicopter noise could disrupt medical testing for children.
Legal counsel for Ord Street Holdings argued that the helipad would have minimal impact, stating it would only be used for corporate transport up to 12 times a year during daylight hours. The company has argued that rooftop helipads are standard in global cities like Tokyo and New York and would help elevate Perth’s status.
