Handmade puppet collection rediscovered in Goulburn
A collection of seven boxes containing handmade puppets, handwritten scripts, and instructional materials has been rediscovered, preserving the legacy of an infants school teacher from Goulburn. The collection, which dates from July 1955 to March 1996, was stored at the Lieder Theatre following the teacher's death.
Volunteer and former teacher Greg Angus recently utilized the resources, which include characters from stories such as ‘The Three Little Pigs’, ‘Cinderella’, and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. The collection also features a ‘Workshop’ box containing instructions on puppet construction and a list of puppetry literature. Angus noted that the puppets served as a vital tool for helping children with social, emotional, or expressive language difficulties by allowing them to perform through a character rather than as individuals.
