Handok Museum of Medicine hosts Joseon medical text exhibition

The Handok Museum of Medicine, in collaboration with Eumseong County, is hosting a special exhibition titled ‘Gugupganibang, Descending upon the Village’ from October 6 through the end of December. The event is part of the ‘2026 National Heritage Utilization Project’ supported by the Korea Heritage Service, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Eumseong County.

The exhibition focuses on the ‘Gugupganibang’ (Volume 6), a Joseon Dynasty emergency medical text designated as a national treasure in 1996. Compiled in 1489 under the orders of King Seongjong, the text was written in Hangeul to ensure that common people could easily access treatments for injuries, animal bites, and other urgent medical situations.

To modernize the experience, the museum is utilizing projection mapping titled ‘Light, Prescribing Life,’ which follows the seasonal journey of a pottery merchant named Han Do-gi as he encounters various emergencies. Visitors can also participate in interactive programs such as ‘Emergency Prescription Coloring,’ OX quizzes, and a specialized educational mission for elementary students titled ‘Dispatch! Joseon Emergency Responders!’
