Handrail Creations invests in AI 3D scanner to boost capacity

Bolton-based Handrail Creations, a specialist in bespoke handrails and balustrades, has invested in a wireless, AI-driven 3D scanner to increase production capacity. The technology is currently being utilized on approximately two-thirds of the firm's 160 active projects across the United Kingdom.

The scanner features an integrated 5-inch high-definition display and battery, allowing for the rapid capture of high-quality spatial data. This is particularly useful for measuring complex, curved, or twisting staircases where original architectural drawings are missing, such as in refurbishment or in-situ cast concrete projects. The captured data is used to create precise 3D models for the company's computer-aided design (CAD) and manufacturing processes.

This technological investment follows a £500,000 factory expansion completed in 2025, aimed at supporting more complex commercial contracts in the hospitality, retail, leisure, and wellbeing sectors. Managing Director Kenny Macfarlane stated that the investment is intended to improve efficiency and streamline production without compromising quality.
