Haneda Airport airlines shift domestic baggage check‑in deadline to 30 minutes before departure

Six airlines operating domestic flights from Tokyo's Haneda Airport – All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan Airlines (JAL), Japan Transocean Air, Solaseed Air, StarFlyer and Air Do – will move their baggage‑check‑in cutoff from 20 minutes to 30 minutes before scheduled departure, starting in September. The change is part of a push by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to improve on‑time performance after the domestic punctuality rate fell to a record low of 83% last year. Skymark Airlines will keep the existing 20‑minute deadline for now but will monitor the situation.

Airlines warn that the new deadline is a hard cutoff; passengers arriving later risk missing their flight or leaving bags behind. Travelers have mixed reactions: a 50‑year‑old woman heading to Akita said the earlier cutoff is acceptable given frequent delays, while a man traveling to Osaka expressed concern that the tighter window could force him to choose the Shinkansen instead of flying.
