Hang glider Adilson Schroeder hospitalized after crash in Sapiranga

Experienced hang glider pilot Adilson Schroeder remains in intensive care following a crash during a landing attempt in Sapiranga, Rio Grande do Sul, on Sunday afternoon. According to the Associação Gaúcha de Voo Livre (AGVL), turbulence affected the glider during the final stage of the landing, causing the accident.

Schroeder, 55, was initially treated at Hospital Sapiranga before being transferred to Hospital Nossa Senhora das Graças in Canoas. Medical examinations revealed a small blood clot in his head and blood in his lungs. He is currently in a medically induced coma and is awaiting evaluation by a neurosurgeon. He also underwent surgery for a fractured femur.

The AGVL noted that the landing area presents challenges due to the presence of large trees nearby. Schroeder, who had practiced the sport for 15 years, had pursued hang gliding as a lifelong dream since childhood.
