Hangzhou tests humanoid robots for traffic management

Humanoid robots developed by DEEP Robotics are undergoing real-world testing as traffic officers in Hangzhou, located in China's Zhejiang Province. These robots are being deployed to manage urban traffic flow and assist with various public duties.

During these trials, the humanoid systems perform tasks such as regulating traffic at intersections, maintaining order, guiding pedestrians and drivers, and providing information to tourists. The technology aims to reduce the workload of human traffic officers by handling repetitive and demanding tasks.

According to technical support engineer Gao Xingwei, the robots are designed to operate in extreme temperatures ranging from -20 to 55 degrees Celsius. This follows previous implementations in the city, which included a fleet of smart traffic robots deployed since May to manage busy areas and tourist sites.
