Hani al-Hayek leads efforts to protect Palestinian archaeological sites

Palestinian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Hani al-Hayek, has launched national efforts to protect and develop archaeological and historical sites across various governorates. During an inspection tour in the Hebron governorate, specifically in the towns of Al-Carmel, Yatta, and Beit Umra, al-Hayek assessed the condition of several sites, including Al-Carmel Palace, Al-Qaysariyya, Khirbet Umm al-Amad, and Khirbet Beit Umra.

The Minister emphasized the importance of safeguarding these sites from direct threats and working to integrate them into the Palestinian tourism map. He noted that transforming these locations into vibrant tourist destinations serves to both stimulate the local economy and act as a tool for cultural preservation by increasing community engagement and national attention.

Al-Hayek met with local officials, including representatives from the Fatah movement in Yatta and various municipal leaders, to discuss strengthening partnerships between the Ministry and local authorities to ensure the long-term protection and development of these unique historical assets.
