Hanklit UNESCO designation requires long-term planning

Following the designation of Hanklit as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Anders Have Espersen, director of Museum Mors, has called for a measured, long-term approach to managing the site. He cautioned against expecting an immediate surge in mass tourism, emphasizing that the focus should remain on preservation, research, and infrastructure rather than rapid commercialization.

Espersen noted that while the designation opens new opportunities, success requires collaboration between museums, municipalities, and local citizens. He highlighted that the Fossil and Marl Museum has already seen a 49 percent increase in visitors, but stressed the importance of building a strong, authentic narrative around the unique landscape to ensure sustainable development.
