Hankook expands Hungarian plant for European commercial tyre production

South Korean tyre manufacturer Hankook has expanded its production plant in Rácalmás, Hungary, to begin manufacturing truck and bus tyres in Europe starting this October. The company invested EUR 540 million in this expansion, which features new facilities capable of an annual output exceeding 800,000 units.

Previously, Hankook produced its commercial vehicle tyres for the European market exclusively in Korea and China. By shifting production to Hungary, the company aims to shorten delivery routes, increase supply security, and reduce CO2 emissions associated with long-distance logistics from Asia.

Europe represents approximately 45 per cent of Hankook’s global sales. Since 2007, the company has invested a total of approximately EUR 856 million in its Hungarian production site across multiple stages. The Rácalmás plant currently maintains a capacity to produce up to 17 million tyres annually for passenger cars, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles.
