Hanmi Pharm's obesity drug zantrutide receives WHO international name

Hanmi Pharm has announced that the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially registered the International Nonproprietary Name (INN) for its next-generation triple agonist obesity drug candidate, HM15275, as ‘zantrutide’.

Zantrutide is designed to act on three receptors: GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon. This mechanism aims to maximize weight loss—targeting reductions of over 25%—while simultaneously minimizing muscle loss to improve the overall quality of weight loss. The drug is intended to treat obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases by balancing appetite suppression with increased energy expenditure.

Currently, zantrutide is undergoing Phase 2 clinical trials in the United States for both obesity and diabetes. Hanmi Pharm expects the obesity-related Phase 2 trials to conclude in the first half of 2027.
