Hanmi Pharmaceutical to automate quality assurance using AI
Hanmi Pharmaceutical is launching a two-year initiative to fully integrate artificial intelligence into its Quality Assurance (QA) processes. The project, titled ‘Hanmi Q-Agent’, was selected as a pharmaceutical and bio sector participant in the ‘AX One-stop Voucher Support Project’ led by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Working in a consortium with Samsung SDS, Megazone Cloud, and SelectStar, Hanmi aims to automate the management of extensive quality documentation. The first phase, centered at the Pyeongtaek bio-plant, involves training AI on approximately 4,000 types of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to provide accurate, evidence-based answers and reduce regulatory gap analysis workloads.
The second phase will focus on developing a system to automatically draft Annual Product Quality Review (APQR) reports. Rather than using general-purpose AI, the company will fine-tune Upstage’s ‘Solar’ model to create a proprietary language model tailored to Hanmi’s specific quality and security requirements. Following successful implementation in Pyeongtaek, the company plans to expand the AI model to its Paltan plant, R&D centers, and other group affiliates including Hanmi Science and Hanmi Fine Chemical.
