Hannah Pingree proposes affordability measures for Maine
Democratic candidate for governor Hannah Pingree has proposed a series of measures aimed at addressing affordability issues in Maine. The plan focuses on reducing the cost of living for hourly workers, per-diem employees, and mid-level managers.
Key components of the property tax affordability plan include doubling the Homestead Exemption to keep pace with rising property values and expanding eligibility for the Maine Property Tax Fairness Credit to include more low- and moderate-income homeowners and renters. Additionally, the proposal seeks to require non-Mainer owners of seasonal and investment properties to pay a higher share of property taxes to alleviate the burden on local residents.
