Hannah Waddingham discusses height bias and returns as Rebecca in Ted Lasso season 4

Actress Hannah Waddingham, known for her West End musical work and her role as Rebecca Welton in the Emmy‑winning comedy series Ted Lasso, said her towering height once led to repeated rejections for acting parts. She explained that casting directors often preferred male actors for roles she auditioned for, despite her talent. Co‑star and co‑creator Brendan Hunt later praised her stature, noting that being taller than the male lead became an asset for the character.

Waddingham, now 52, said she no longer views her height as a drawback and has resisted cosmetic surgery to keep control of her appearance. She expressed confidence and contentment with her career trajectory. She will reprise Rebecca, the confident owner of the fictional AFC Richmond, in the highly anticipated fourth season of Ted Lasso, which returned after a surprise revival and previously won back‑to‑back Outstanding Comedy Series Emmys in 2021 and 2022.
