Hanneke Steen addresses housing and health issues in the Netherlands

Dutch Member of Parliament Hanneke Steen has conducted visits to several regions to address critical housing and public health concerns.

In Berkelland, Steen met with local CDA representatives to discuss the housing market. Discussions focused on the affordability of homes, lengthy administrative procedures, rising construction costs, and the financial viability of new projects. Steen emphasized the need for housing plans to be feasible for future residents, including starters, families, and seniors.

In Rijssen, Steen met with residents of the Pottebakkerserf complex who reported health issues, such as sore throats, eye irritation, and headaches, following the use of UF-foam insulation. Residents suspect the release of formaldehyde gas. Steen noted that while the government stopped subsidizing the foam following health warnings, current legal limits for formaldehyde concentrations remain significantly higher than the levels advised by the RIVM and GGD. Steen has indicated she will press the Minister to re-examine these legal standards.
