Hannover apartment explosion leaves eight injured

An explosion and subsequent fire in a multi-family residential building in the Ricklingen district of Hannover injured eight people on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The incident occurred around noon in the vicinity of Heinrich-Bock-Weg and Dannenbergstraße.

Emergency responders reported a dramatic scene, including a full fire on the second floor and debris scattered across the street. The blast caused parts of a ceiling to collapse and destroyed windows, rendering the affected building uninhabitable. A structural engineer was deployed to assess the damage to the primary residence and four neighboring buildings.

Among the injured, a 36-year-old man sustained severe injuries and was found in front of the building. Three other men, aged 31, 58, and 68, suffered moderate injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Four additional individuals were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, with officials looking into whether a gas leak was responsible. Witnesses described a massive blast and pressure waves that felt like a bomb strike.
