Hannover locomotive depot opens for Open Monument Day

The historic locomotive depot in Hannover opened its doors to the public as part of the ‘Tag des offenen Denkmals’ (Open Monument Day). Despite drizzling rain, large crowds visited the site on Bultstraße to explore over 135 years of railway and industrial history.

Established in 1876 to maintain steam locomotives, the facility includes roundhouses, turntables, and workshops. While parts of the complex were damaged during World War II, the eastern section remains preserved as a protected monument. The site has been vacant since 2004, though plans have been noted for future redevelopment, including potential uses for gastronomy, a fitness studio, and a classic car hall.
