Hannover moorlands to host conservation and nature tours

The ‘Hannoversche Moorgeest’ project will host Moor Experience Days from September 25 to 27, 2026. The event offers nine guided tours through four regional moorlands: Bissendorfer, Helstorfer, Otternhagener, and Schwarze Moor.

Participants can learn about moorland development and conservation efforts. While vegetation is already expanding in three of the areas, work to re-wet the Helstorfer Moor is currently ongoing. Some tours will provide access to restricted areas of the nature reserves under special permits. Experts from the Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal Defence and Nature Conservation (NLWKN), the Region Hannover, and NABU Wedemark will lead the excursions.

The program begins on September 25 with a lecture by nature photographer Farina Graßmann at the MOORiZ information center in Wedemark-Resse. An exhibition by Marlies Postel regarding moorlands, climate, and biodiversity will also be on display at the center.
