Hannover police crackdown seizes drugs and issues dozens of place bans

In the night of 28 June 2026, police stations Raschplatz, Mitte and the Special Services unit, together with the municipal order service, carried out extensive controls in Hannover’s city centre. The operations targeted drug trafficking, commercial violations and traffic offences, with a focus on Andreaestraße and Marstall.

Three suspected dealers aged 19 to 41 were temporarily detained after offering or handing over marijuana, cocaine or hashish. A stash containing ecstasy tablets and cocaine, not linked to any suspect, was also seized. All three were released but received place bans. In a separate check, a 22‑year‑old was arrested on a warrant for serious robbery. A further dozen individuals with prior drug‑related records received place bans.

Commercial inspections uncovered illegal residence and employment cases, violations of the anti‑black‑labour law and other trade irregularities. Police also confiscated nitrous oxide at a kiosk under the New Psychoactive Substances Act. Traffic checks resulted in citations for red‑light offences, noise complaints and driving under the influence.

Police chief Hendrik Behrens said the visible police presence led to “significantly fewer street offences than usual for a Saturday night,” reinforcing confidence in the deployment concept.
