Hannover police seek witnesses in unsolved murder case

Police in the Hannover region are seeking new leads in the murder of 67-year-old Waldemar S., who was killed near the Silbersee recreation area. The incident occurred on the night of August 24, 2025, after the victim had been spending the evening with friends at a park bench.

Investigators believe the victim was attacked directly at the bench between 11:00 PM and shortly after midnight. Although he attempted to flee, he was found severely injured only a few meters away.

One year after the crime, the case has gained national attention following a broadcast on the ZDF program ‘Aktenzeichen XY … ungelöst’. Authorities are hoping that the televised appeal will prompt witnesses to come forward with information regarding observations made during that timeframe.
