Hanoi advances smart village models and social housing goals

Hanoi is implementing a national target program for new rural construction for the 2026–2035 period. During the first phase (2026–2030), the city aims to transition from traditional infrastructure investment to creating modern, green, and digital rural spaces. Key initiatives include the development of “smart villages” through digital transformation to improve management, economic efficiency, and service quality for residents.

The city's draft criteria for new rural communes include 10 standards and 47 indicators. Environmental protection is a major focus, with requirements that 100% of solid domestic waste be collected and treated, and at least 80% of waste be sorted at the source to eliminate direct landfilling.

In parallel, Vietnam is working toward a national goal of completing 160,000 social housing units in 2026. In Hanoi, projects such as the CT3 Kim Chung development are progressing, with handovers expected between late 2026 and early 2027. These housing initiatives aim to provide affordable living spaces for various groups, including those with meritorious service to the revolution and members of the armed forces.
