Hanoi proposes absorbing part of Phu Tho province

The Hanoi People's Committee is seeking public opinion on a proposal to adjust administrative boundaries between Hanoi and Phu Tho province. The plan involves transferring approximately 4,006 hectares from Phu Tho to Hanoi, primarily focusing on the Ba Vi National Park area and its buffer zones.

The proposed adjustment includes 2,529.38 hectares within the Ba Vi National Park and 1,477 hectares of buffer zones across several communes and wards, including Thinh Minh, Luong Son, and Ky Son. The move aims to unify state management of the special-use forest ecosystem, improve land and infrastructure management, and synchronize urban planning for the western expansion of the capital.

Experts suggest that the expansion should prioritize green development and cultural tourism. Dr. Dao Ngoc Nghiem, Vice President of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association, emphasized the need for clear development goals and the preservation of natural and cultural heritage. Professor Dang Hung Vo, former Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, noted that the adjustment could provide additional resources for Hanoi while creating new development opportunities for the receiving areas.
